This place is Northcote roads best new Indian!! I had an all round absolutely amazing experience and could not recommend it more to anyone in the area. We went crazy and got a ton of food. The onion bhaji - fresh, crunchy, unbelievable. The fried baby sweet corn - never had it before, so good!!!! The chili cheese dosa - WOW TO DIE FOR!! The paneer curry - best I’ve ever had in my life. Put simply, all of the food was unreal. We ordered the mango soft serve but the machine was broken. They came back to us and gave us the gulab jamin on the house!! It was also so damn good. This place has great vibes, good prices, and the staff are awesome. 10/10 you need to go here if you’re reading this!!

I’ve been to this place twice now and have been meaning to write a review! First off, make sure you book a table. It’s incredibly popular, and with the restaurant being quite small, walking in (especially for dinner) would be challenging. My first visit was with a group of six, shortly after they had opened. It was clear they were still finding their feet as the service was quite slow, and the food took a long time to arrive. However, once it did, it was worth the wait—every dish was bursting with incredible flavor. On my second visit with my boyfriend, the service had noticeably improved. Standout dishes included the butter masala, onion bhaji, and the dosas. We finished off with mango lassis, which were the perfect end to a fantastic meal. I can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic experience at Tamila on our first visit. Our server was so lovely and patiently answered all our questions about the menu. We got a variety of dishes to share and every single one was amazing, the star of the show being the Tandoori chicken. Perfectly balanced flavours packed with fragrant spices and appealing presentation. Will be back for sure!

This is a really good addition to Northcote Road adding a different cuisine. Overall good food with multiple options for veg and non-veg food. The tandoori chicken was so tender and smooth. The onion bhaji was also just crispy as you want it. It just gets quite busy and it’s not very spacious or airy inside. Otherwise, everything’s great. Be sure to book in advance as there are rarely spaces available for walk-ins.

We visited Tamila for lunch on a weekend and were able to get a walk-in table (which we weren't expecting). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful (the person looking after us went out of her way to pack us an extra portion of dip for takeaway because I mentioned that our toddler really liked it). The food and drinks were top-notch, - presentation, quantity, taste met expectations. The ambience is warm and inviting, though the way the restaurant is laid out is a bit non-standard and makes it look sparse (not that I'd hold it against them, but it's more of an observation). Glad that it was a good experience because the Tamil Prince and Tamil Crown are much further away!

A friend recommended this place, so we popped in on a busy Saturday evening. Despite the crowd, the team kindly found us a lovely table. The food was absolutely delicious, definitely a spot worth trying if you’re in the area.

We had an outstanding meal here—truly one of the best Indian dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Every dish was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. We started with an onion bhaji, which was crisp and golden with just the right amount of spice—warm, aromatic, and completely addictive. The mutton curry dosa stole the show: thin and crispy on the outside, generously topped with tender, spiced mutton that was rich and deeply flavourful. To accompany our mains, we had buttery garlic naan that was soft and indulgent, ideal for scooping up the delicious sauces. The coconut rice added a lovely subtle sweetness that paired beautifully with both the lamb and chicken curries—each distinct, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. We washed it all down with the house lager, which was light, refreshing, and a great match for the meal. Highly recommend this place if you’re after authentic, expertly made Indian food that delivers on every front. We’ll definitely be back.

Great tasting food and great service. The service os 12.5% but I do think it was earnt with our server regularly filling up our water without being asked. You order a little from each part of the menu to share.
